Qualifications & Memberships

I am a Practitioner Psychologist with HCPC registration (PYL30956). I completed my Doctorate in Child, Community and Educational Psychology at the Tavistock Clinic, affiliated by University of Essex (July 2014).

I am a certified Group Work Practitioner having completed a Diploma in Group Analysis at the Institute of Group Analysis, London.

I have also completed additional therapeutic trainings to support individuals, parents/families as well as their wider networks. For example, Narrative Exposure Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.

Personal Statement

I am a Practitioner Psychologist specialising in work with adolescents and young adults, with experience across education, health, social care, and the voluntary sector. I also work as a Senior Psychologist within an NHS mental health service.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with people from diverse backgrounds. I believe our experiences and social environments shape how we see ourselves, relate to others, and navigate life's challenges, often in ways that lie outside our awareness.

I see therapy as a collaborative space where you can feel safe, understood, and supported to explore what matters most to you. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, or questions about identity and direction, I aim to help you make sense of your experiences, draw on your strengths, and move towards meaningful and lasting change.

I work at a pace that feels right for you, recognising that genuine growth and change take time.

Group Therapy for Young Adults

This group meets each week on a Wednesday 18.30-20.00. There is space for up to 7 members including the group facilitator. It is open to young adults. This group would be particularly helpful if you are experiencing challenges relating to your relationships, mood, self-esteem and/or your sense of connection and belonging. All new members are supported to join the group through a series of one-to-one meetings.

To find out more about some of the therapies I offer, please see: Time Limited Adolescent Psychodynamic Psychotherapy as well as Group Psychotherapy.

Payment

Please contact me to enquire about current fees. In addition to self-paying clients, I also accept the following health insurance providers: BUPA and WPA.

Dr Dean Flanagan B.Sc., P.G.C.E., D.Ch.Ed.Psych. CPsychol.

Work Focus

My work focus is with young adults (16 to 30 years) who are experiencing mental health difficulties such as anxiety, depression as well as those facing challenges relating to relationships, loss, education/work as well as life transitions and identity.

I offer both individual and group psychotherapy. My preferred therapeutic approach is psychodynamic; but I have the training, skills and experience to draw upon a range of psychological models to best meet your needs and goals.
